“Surrounded by Idiots” by Thomas Erikson

In 2014 a new book was published on Amazon, written by Swedish behavioral and communication expert Thomas Erikson. This book has been translated into 42 languages and has been recognized as one of the world’s best-selling non-fiction books. This book is called “Surrounded by Idiots: The Four Types of Human Behavior and How to Effectively Communicate with Each in Business (and in Life)”.

One of my colleagues at work mentioned to me this book and highly recommended to read it. I added it to my Goodreads shelf and it stayed there for quite a while until one day I was chatting with my colleague, and she mentioned this book again. I thought to myself this couldn’t be a coincidence to hear multiple times about the same book. And I finally read it. Now I am the one who recommends it to all of my colleagues and I am the one “coloring” people.

I must admit – I regret I haven’t read it earlier. This book is a real goldmine, full of interesting insights, written in a structured way and in a unique storytelling style. If you read it attentively, making sense of information and applying it to real-life case scenarios, I can assure you – it will be an eye-opening experience for you and will help you achieve immediate results in communication. I insist you read this book. It will help you understand yourself and others, communicate better, and finally understand how people function and which approach fits best to different personalities.

You can’t apply the same approach to everyone and expect the same results. Working with people requires customization🙂

You’ve definitely heard about 4 types of temperaments. This book uses colors. The author divided all people into 4 colors: red, yellow, green and blue. Each color has a set of innate characteristics which help understand how these people function and cooperate with others. I bet you will recognize yourself and many of your friends in this book.

Why I am convinced this book is a must-read? Because in life it is all about communication. And this book provides strategies for how to collaborate with other colors and which strategies to choose to cooperate with them more effectively.

Hope you’ll enjoy the read. I am eager to hear your feedback. Enjoy!
